Ok, I just got to level 20 a couple of minutes ago. I went to T.O.A. to get into the Underworld but the dude said I need to get ascended before I can go in. How do I get ascended?

Follow the story line. It will take you to the Crystal Desert. Once you get to Augury Rock talk to the ghost NPC there. He'll take you through a portal where you talk to three more ghosts that tell you about three quests you must perform. Find the three outposts (Elona's Reach, Thirsty River and Dunes of Dispair) and do the quests. Then go back to Augury and talk to the ghost again. This time you will be able to enter the rift and fight your Doppleganger. Defeat him and you are ascended.

you dont have to follow the storyline to get to the desert if u cant be bothered... you could just get some1 to run u from toa to sanctum cay and complete the mission.. then u will be at the desert.

Yeah, I was already at Augury Rock when I got to level 20.
